Are you looking for a way to contribute to your community and promote healthy sexuality? Planned Parenthood Toronto’s volunteer opportunities can offer you just that. Volunteers at PPT play an active and key role to contributing to the well-being of our clients, partners, and the communities we serve. Volunteers also increase their skills, meet new people, and make new connections in the community. We offer peer education opportunities in our sexual and reproductive health programs, and our anti-homophobia project, T.E.A.C.H., as well as opportunities to volunteer for specific projects such as fundraising and special events.

P.E.A.K. (Prevention, Engagement, Action, Knowledge) Volunteer Opportunities

The Prevention Engagement Action and Knowledge (PEAK) Project is an initiative of Planned Parenthood Toronto (PPT) that aims to educate and inform youth about HIV/AIDS through interactive activities. Our volunteers are trained to facilitate activities and workshops that engage participants in conversations about HIV, prevention and stigma. Workshops are for youth, by youth and are and are facilitated by our youth volunteers.

Registration for PEAK volunteers is currently closed but we will be recruiting again in May/June, 2015. Mark your calendars!

S.N.A.P. (Supporting Newcomer Access Project)

Are you a newcomer to Canada who is between the ages of 16 and 29? Do you want to give back to your community by being a Peer Educator and youth leader? Are you interested in fighting the barriers and discrimination that newcomers experience when it comes to living healthy lives? We want YOU to join S.N.A.P.!

We are looking for youth who are interested in engaging with their peers from diverse newcomer communities in Toronto to address our lack of relevant, and accessible sexual health education. Through the development and delivery of peer-led sexual health education workshops, activities and resources, you will have an active role in making youth in your community feel more comfortable and healthy.

This project will run for three years, with a new programming cycle every year. The programming cycle will typically run from September to May.

If chosen as a Peer Educator, you will be a member of the S.N.A.P. Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). The YAC will participate in a 10 week training series, covering sexual health, healthy relationships, and communication and facilitation. With support and guidance from PPT staff, the YAC will work together to develop sexual health education activities and a workshop for newcomer youth which will be facilitated in your communities.

You can grab the application form by clicking here. Applications must be submitted by September 12th, 2014. For more info, contact Zaheen Karim by email at zkarim@ppt.on.ca or by calling (416) 961-0113 ext. 147.
